Fourth position

Fourth position (feet) – Fourth position is somewhat like an open third position. In fourth position, the feet are turned out and crossed one in front of the other, hips squared to the front, straight legs, weight evenly distributed between both feet, and within each foot.  But the legs are open from front to back, as if the dancer took one step front from third position and stopped with approximately 6-10″ between the two feet (less for a young dancer).

Fourth position (arms) – One arm is in first position, one arm is in high fifth position.
