Arabesque – Position in which the dancer stands on one straight leg with the other leg extended straight back in the air above 90 degrees. The shoulders and hips should be kept square, and the back muscles and seat muscles should be highly engaged to attain the proper leg height and upper body posture.  There are various arabesque positions – first arabesque, second arabesque, etc.
